Manchester MST team offers support to more local families

Commissioned by Manchester City Council, the MST team in Manchester was set up in April 2014 in response to growing concern about the number of children going into care and the poor outcomes for children who were in the care system, not to mention the high associated cost of this.

As Action for Children celebrates over 10 years of being the successful provider of the service we have been able to build on our success of 95.15 % of children remaining with their family at the end of MST intervention, 94.38 % not offending and 87.79 being in education it is easy to understand why we have worked with MCC to build on our success to return children home from care-our new pilot.

With an early indication of high success- our pilot to return children home from care is underpinned by a highly skilled and knowledgeable team of therapists- dedicated to get children back to their families. We will continue to update on our success (and challenges!) as well as provide information on the services evaluation, costs savings and what this has meant for families.

The coming together of a large national childrens charity, with values to keep children safe and improve childhood experiences aligns well with the strong evidence that MST works for families. This is also reflected in the recent re-award of the contract to deliver MST in Northants.

Mum, “i think possibly my daughter would have been taken into care or her behaviour could have got out of hand leading to someone getting hurt”.

“What would have happened if you hadn’t had MST?” – “I don’t think P would be in our lives now”- Dad

What the young person said – “MST are amazing. If they didn’t come, I wouldn’t be sat here right now. I thank them a lot”.
